A HELPFUL PLACE TO BEGIN

Start with the official source.

This guide is for short-stay Schengen travel (up to 90 days in any 180-day period) when a visa is required for the traveller's passport. The common EU application framework is verified, while country-specific and applicant-specific document instructions must be checked at the responsible mission or authorised application centre.

What to consider

In Qatar, the German Embassy accepts short-stay applications when Germany, Austria or Slovenia is the main destination. It publishes separate tourism, visitor, business and airport-transit checklists. Residence eligibility and the exact checklist must be confirmed for your case.

Travel purposes to discuss

  • Short-stay tourism / holiday
  • Short business visit (permitted activities only)
  • Family or friends visit
  • Other short-stay purpose where the authority provides a matching category

General preparation steps

  1. Check whether your passport requires a Schengen visa using the official nationality-specific guidance.
  2. For a multi-country itinerary, apply through the country of the main destination; if no main destination can be determined, use the first country entered.
  3. If applying in Qatar, confirm that you legally reside there and that the relevant mission accepts your application.
  4. Follow the selected country’s current category-specific official checklist, fees, appointment, biometrics and submission instructions.
  5. Contact FARDAN only to discuss service availability and scope; the authority makes the visa decision.
This page is general information, not an eligibility result or a complete checklist. The right process depends on your passport, residence and travel details. Always follow the current instructions from the official authority.
Want to discuss your trip? Contact FARDAN with your destination, passport nationality, place of residence and travel timing. Do not send passport numbers or financial documents through an ordinary enquiry.

Schengen short-stay application baseline

Applies only if your passport requires a uniform Schengen visa. This is the common EU baseline, not the complete local checklist for this country or your profile. Additional mission documents, translations, forms, appointment steps, and exceptions may apply.

  • A valid travel document/passport meeting the Schengen validity rules.
  • A completed Schengen visa application form.
  • A recent photograph that meets ICAO standards.
  • Travel medical insurance covering emergency care, hospitalisation and repatriation.
  • Supporting evidence for the purpose of the stay, financial means, accommodation and intention to leave before the visa expires; the evidence depends on the trip and applicant.
  • Fingerprints at submission where required; exemptions apply to some applicants.
